I just wrapped up a weekend without any plans, and it felt great.
I got to work on little projects here at home, and cooked some meals I enjoyed, and also listened to a lot of music. I watched movies and read books and played video games. I did laundry and played with Ivy and Coco. I dressed up the dogs for Halloween, watched trick-or-treaters out the window, and ate snacks.
Most of all, I breathed. I napped. I thought about Kellie, and about the time we got to spend together. I also thought about the time we’re never going to get to spend with each other. I thought about how unfair that is, but that thought consumed less of my time than all the rest.
I’ve been making a lot of smoothies. Some of them have been strange and haven’t tasted good at all (like today’s cold brew coffee/strawberries/spinach/chocolate/oat milk), but some of them have been incredibly tasty (like tonight’s kefir/coconut water/pear/cinnamon/flax seed/vanilla protein powder). Practice makes better, in this as in so many things?
I’ve been looking at and going through a whole lot of books. I’m finding that there are very few which I don’t want, which is fine. I’m not interested in getting rid of books, not really. But what will be awesome is being able to see them all now, since they’re only one deep on the bookshelves (and since they’re organized better, and since soon ONLY books will be on the shelves with books). I did have to order one more bookshelf to make the process truly shine, so when that comes and is assembled this week we’ll be at nine bookshelves in this house. Which is absolutely fine with me—books are a big part of my life, and I always want them to be.
I’m being gentle with myself and my feelings this month, as I’ve said previously. It’s Kellie’s birthday month, and that means everything is likely to remind me of her, even more than it usually does. So far I’m doing okay, and we’re two days into the month.
Please, go vote tomorrow (if you haven’t already). And please vote for people who care about you, about your community, and about those who have a lot less than you and I do. That mostly means “vote for the Democratic candidate”, though there are still plenty of decent-minded Republicans in the world. In terms of those currently in office, there are very few elected Republicans who have tried to stop this President from doing anything he wants to destroy the world and make himself wealthier. So judge them by their actions, perhaps? Please take a stand against this man tomorrow. Please.
My week has started out great. I hope yours has as well. Talk to you soon.
XOXO,
Matt
